Under the bonnet

Web Spinner® 3.0 is engineered using industry-standard technologies to give you control of your intranet.

Designed to fit straight into your existing business, Web Spinner® is built on platforms that you already use—Microsoft® Word, SQL Server and Web-standard XHTML and CSS, giving you high performance with low overheads.

Its architecture leaves you free to customise as little or as much as you like.

Four layers of control

Web Spinner® is designed to give you control of your intranet. Its modular architecture is built on four layers:

  1. look and feel
  2. site structure
  3. functions and
  4. storage

giving you flexibility on a solid base. You’re free to fit Web Spinner® to your business.

Styling

Web Spinner offers a full range of styling options using CSS

A Web Spinner® intranet’s look and feel is created using Web-standard Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Match the site to your corporate style or make it as individual as you and your Web designer like. Fonts, colours, layout, alloy wheels and more, it’s fully customisable.

Chassis and suspension

Your intranet site’s structure is set up and managed using Web Spinner’s Web browser-based interface. This means you can structure your information accurately to present it so your people can use it.

Structure your information to suit you and your business, not to suit the document management system.

Incidentally, because everything is controlled from inside your favourite standards-compliant browser, your Web Spinner® intranet can be managed from pretty much any computer—Windows, Macintosh, Linux or Unix.

Equipment and options

Web Spinner® has as many functions as you like thanks to its modular, fully customisable design. Set up the modules in the functionality layer to give your intranet all the bells and whistles, or keep it stock standard.

Web Spinner's four layers of control

Web Spinner® comes with four module types: managing work flow, managing documents, creating site content and administering the site.

Managing work flow

Use Web Spinner® to manage your document approval process (or use it to improve the process).

These modules let you set the appropriate control levels for each document, approve documents, and publish them on the intranet.

Publish Word

Publishing documents is easy using Web Spinner®. You still write in Microsoft® Word, but you convert the documents to XHTML using Web Spinner’s Word converter. Web Spinner® retains all the document’s metadata so you keep control of the document, even on the intranet.

Publish PDF

Web Spinner® also retains all metadata from PDFs created in Adobe® Acrobat 6.0 professional, making your PDFs much more controllable and powerful.

Managing documents

List your documents, include a navigation hierachy or introduce a dynamically-generated list of links between documents. These modules put your documents to work on the intranet, using metadata to make links between documents, guiding readers to the information they’re likely to need.

Creating site content

Easily create and edit content on your site. Announce your huge profit and other news items or create a phone list. Whatever information you need to communicate to your people, you can use these modules to do it.

Administering the site

Use Web Spinner’s administration modules to decide who can add users, who can edit content and who will submit new documents. You decide how much administration control you need and set up the site accordingly.

Fuel tank

Web Spinner®stores your information in a SQL database. No proprietary formats, no cluttered file directories, just the capacity you need to find the information you want quickly and easily.

After-market tuning

It may be that to keep developing your business, your intranet needs tools that aren’t available in Web Spinner’s standard set. No worries. Web Spinner’s fully extensible architecture means you can produce custom modules to best serve and improve your business.

Web Spinner® uses state-of-the-art development environments so your IT people can develop new high performance modules and (if you have a licence that gives you access to the source code) hot-rod the standard ones.

All your IT people need is Microsoft® ASP.NET to develop Web Spinner® iDS modules and Microsoft® SQL to develop the database.

And maybe a pair of fluffy dice.
